Jesus was born into some very difficult circumstances concerning his mother that to the uninformed was shameful. However, Matthew reminds us that this “mother difficulty” was not new. Though shame lurked in the backdrop of Jesus’ genealogy, Matthew, being well acquainted with deep shame himself, heralds it as a credential for this newborn king.
